Zurgena

Zurgena sits on the right bank of the River Almanzora approximately 25km from the coast and among fields of beautifully smelling citrus trees. It has a wide range of amenities, including an English speaking doctor, pharmacy, primary school and in the neighbouring village of Alfoquia a secondary school.
Much of the history of this town was lost when the Survey and Population book was lost, however there is still buildings and local tales to excite your imagination. The Parish Church of San Ramon Nonato is one of the most notable places to visit. Built in 1558 to 1570, the fabulous Mudejar woodwork still survives.
Every Friday morning the market comes to town, together with the local tobacconist, supermarket, butchers, bakers and boutiques, and the array of fish, vegetables and meat at the market, there isn’t anything you will want for.
